The Ten
Will They Be Taken Away from Us?
The Ten Commandments are at the forefront of controversy these days, but the controversy runs much
deeper than just the public display of God’s Law. It seems that in every facet of American life, there is a low
moral standard that is being thrust upon us, and political correctness dictates that the word NO is unacceptable
unless it is directed at Christianity. There are so many issues involved in this struggle, such as abortion,
homosexuality, feminism, etc., that make us realize that we are truly living in the last days, spoken of in God’s
Word, the Bible.

Shouldn’t we realize though, that the Ten Commandments are at the very foundation of the problems in our
society? As Christians, we realize that the lack of respect and obedience to the Decalogue is the very thing that
has brought us to this low point in our history. America was no doubt founded on the very principles contained
in the Ten Commandments, and the Holy Bible, and yet we have wandered so far from those very principles. Is
there any hope for our society as a whole? And what should our position, as Bible believing Christians, be
toward the Bible and the law of God? These are very good questions for our consideration, and I believe that
you will be blessed by some of the answers that you will find in this letter. If you love God, His Word, and the
Ten Commandments, you will want to read on, and prayerfully consider this admonition from God’s own Word.

On one side of this issue, we find people that will go to any length to defend “rights.” And we realize that this is
usually the right to live in open sin. We rarely, if ever, see the ACLU defending someone who believes the Bible
to be the Word of the Living God, and who is being discriminated against because of those beliefs. But then
sometimes, the people on the other side of the issue appear to be militant Christians who want to force their
beliefs upon us all. And so the average American isn’t quite sure where he stands on the issue concerning the
Ten Commandments. BUT, we know that we love God, and we feel the urge to stand up for Jesus, and His Ten

Isn’t it strange that we are warring over the Ten Commandments, when most of the Christian churches do NOT
believe or teach that they are still binding upon man? Most of the churches today, are telling people that God’s
law is the old covenant, and is no longer a necessary part of “New Testament” religion. BUT when the ACLU and
the powers that be, want to take them away from us, we are ready to fight for them. One must ask the question:
controversy, our motivation should be because those Ten Commandments are still the law of Jehovah God, and
we see their importance for our society, and our salvation!

Maybe this is why God has allowed this terrible thing to take place! Maybe He is allowing the ungodly to come
in and steal away this precious treasure so that you and I will sit up and take notice. Maybe it is because we
need to realize the value and importance of that holy Ten Commandment law! Could it be that God is allowing
this travesty in order to teach us a lesson?

While many sincere Christians are worried about the Ten Commandments being taken away from us, there is
something very important that has already happened, right under our very noses. Most are not aware of this
important piece of church history, but in this late hour of Earth’s history, God is calling his faithful ministers to do
a special work concerning His Ten Commandment law. In Isaiah’s prophecy, he deals with the end time more
than any other Bible author, including the Revelation. AND in writing on the subject of the last days, and the law
of God, he had this to say in Isaiah 58:1: “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my
people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” Now we can be sure that we are talking about the
Ten Commandments here, because 1 John 3:4 says: “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for
sin is the transgression of the law,” and God says to show His people their transgressions and sins.

I would also like to point out that although this was originally written to the ancient nation of Israel (house of
Jacob), it is even more pointedly to the last generation of God’s people, just before the second coming of Jesus.
There are two excellent verses that should suffice to show this point: First, consider what 1 Corinthians 10:11
says: “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon
whom the ends of the world are come.” Secondly, we should realize that with the rejection and murder of Jesus,
the “chosen people” status was taken away from the ancient nation of Israel, and then given to the Christian
church that was founded by the apostles of Jesus. The apostle Paul taught us: “And if ye be Christ’s
[CHRISTIANS], then are ye Abraham’s seed [CHILDREN], and heirs according to the promise.” In other words,
as Christians, we are God’s chosen people, the modern, or spiritual nation of Israel. AND all of these promises,
commandments, and admonitions now apply to us!

So with that in mind, let’s go back to the prophecy in Isaiah 58. In verse one, there it is! There is that urge that
we feel to stand up for Jesus and His law. God is looking for faithful Christians to bear this part of the gospel
message to His people, and to “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet…” to the people who are
transgressing against His holy law. And as you proceed through this chapter of prophecy, there are several sins
that are mentioned there that the people are guilty of committing. And sure enough, the people today, are guilty
of these very sins! But in verse 12, the prophecy comes to a very crucial point about God’s Ten Commandment
law. It says: “And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations
of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.” My
friend can you see that Isaiah is talking about just what we are going through today? There is a breach that has
been made in the law of God! Therefore the foundation of our religion has been torn down, to the greater
extent, and we have lost our way. We are not dwelling in the paths that the Lord God would have us to dwell in!

But pay attention to what the verse is telling us. There is coming a movement that will build up the old waste
places, and raise up the foundations that have lain in ruins for many generations. They will be called the
repairer of this breach in God’s law -- the restorer of those right paths to dwell in! And my friend, I want to be a
part of that holy work of God that builds up the foundation of His Holy Word. And I want to be a part of that holy
work that repairs the breach that has been made in God’s Holy Ten Commandment Law. And I want to lead our
dear people in the right [righteous] paths too! And I sense that YOU do too!

Now, we need to consider the rest of Isaiah’s chapter of prophecy here. The very next verse tells us more
about this breach in God’s law. Verse 13 says: “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy
pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour
him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:” and verse 14 is
the last verse of this chapter of prophecy, and it says: “Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will
cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the
mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” Now please don’t miss this important truth. Isaiah says that there will be a
breach in God’s law, and that He will raise up a people that will lift up their voices, and call His people to restore
the breach that has been made in this law. Then He says, if we will keep the sabbath, and call it a delight, that
He will bless us greatly, and we will delight ourselves in the worship of our LORD!

Knowing that most Christians today have never even heard about keeping the Sabbath, let alone studied the
subject or honestly thought about it, I hope you will bear with me a bit, and prayerfully make a decision based on
what the Lord says on this important subject in His Holy Word. Surely this would be a good time to read about
the sabbath from the Ten Commandments. Exodus 20:8-11 says: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it
thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy
cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and
all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
It is by far, the longest commandment of the Decalogue, and it even begins with the word “remember,” but just
think about it, it really is the one commandment that has been forgotten. Remember Isaiah said that the
foundation of God’s law would be torn down for many generations, and this is the only one of God’s Ten
Commandments that has been forgotten for many generations, just like Isaiah said. God knew that this would
happen, and this is the reason He made the provision of the word “remember!”

Then too, there is the prophecy of Daniel 7, where the Lord gives us vital information, for the last days,
concerning the Antichrist power. There, it tells us one of the identifying marks of this power in Verse 25: “And he
shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to
change times and laws:…” You see, one of the identifying marks of the Antichrist power is that he would “think
to change times and laws.” Now if we are just talking about any law, we would have a problem understanding
this verse, but if we understand that this warning is all about God’s Ten Commandment law, then it will all make
perfect sense.

Has there been an attempt to change the law of God? There certainly has, and from an earthly perspective, it
seems that the attempt has been completely successful! Now, we know that no power could truly change the law
of God, but it has thought to do so and at least seems to have been successful from our perspective. First, I
would like to make you aware of the most obvious attempt to change God’s law. Few people are aware of it.
Then we will look at a more subtle change that is right in our faces.

As you read the Ten Commandments there in Exodus chapter 20, right from the Holy Bible, the second
commandment tells us not to make any graven images, and not to bow down and worship them. In the Roman
Catholic Catechisms, the second commandment has been removed because the church commonly practices
the veneration of pictures and statues. Then to make it appear as the Ten Commandments, the tenth
commandment is dissected and called the ninth and the tenth. Thus God’s law is obviously changed, and the
attempt is to do away with one of the commandments altogether. Next you will find a chart, which shows God’s
Ten Commandments (which the Bible declares were written by the finger of God on tables of stone, and are
unchangeable), and the false ten, as changed by the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church.

*taken verbatim from, “Growing in Christian Morality” by Julia Ahlers, Barbara Allaire, and Carl Koch, page 40.

It has both nihil obstat and imprimatur which are official declarations that a book or pamphlet is free of Roman
Catholic doctrinal error. The authors have used the NRSV--and they’ve even corrupted the corrupted!

What’s worse is that the authors of this book know these commandments are deceitful. Look at what they say:
“…These are the Ten Commandments, from Exodus, chapter 20, in the traditional way they are enumerated by
Roman Catholics:”

This change is not well known, because Protestants are not aware of the contents of Roman Catholic
Catechisms, and Roman Catholic lay persons are not allowed to question the church. They are taught that it is
infallible. BUT it is obvious that the Roman Catholic Church places itself on a higher plane than the holy
Scriptures. It supposedly changes the law of God, and the very teaching of His Word. And it openly practices
the veneration (worship) of idols (statues) and icons (pictures) in conflict with the second commandment of God.
But there is another commandment that has been changed. And this one fits Daniel’s prophecy to a tee! And
this change to God’s law is flagrant and out in the open! In Exodus 20:8-11, the fourth commandment is
expressed very clearly as the seventh day Sabbath of the Lord our God. But this same power, the Roman
Catholic Church, has from all earthly view, succeeded in changing the day of worship from the seventh day
(Saturday) to the first day of the week (Sunday). Remember Daniel said that this power would think to change
times and laws, and in this exchange, they have both changed the time and the law of God!

Many uninformed Protestants will offer up arguments and objections to the keeping of the seventh day
Sabbath, as being Jewish, and Sunday, as being “Christian,” but there is no such command given in all the
Scriptures. Jesus and His disciples kept the seventh day Sabbath, as did the early apostles. Jesus himself
prophesied that the Sabbath would still be kept at the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, as well as at the end of
the world (Matthew 24:20) and Isaiah gave yet future prophecies that mention the keeping of the Sabbath day
throughout eternity (Isaiah 66:22-23). And Paul took away all questions on the matter, when in Hebrews 4:1-11
he made extensive comment on the subject, and summarized it this way: “For if Jesus had given them rest [on a
different day], then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.” [?] “There remaineth therefore a rest
[the Sabbath day] to the people of God.” [!] Hebrews 4:8-9. [Emphasis mine].

Because these changes took place so long ago (during the dark ages) God’s people today, for the most part,
are not aware of what is going on. But the Bible is very clear on the subject. There is no other subject that is
discussed so frequently in God’s Word as is the Ten Commandment law of God. There are more than 700 times
that we are admonished to keep His law and obey it. AND there are 137 times in the Bible that we are told to
keep the seventh day Sabbath. Not once is there any hint of a change, or that we should keep any other day as
holy. In fact, Sunday (the first day of the week) is only mentioned 9 times (all of them just in passing) in the
whole Bible, and there is nothing to suggest that we are to consider this day holy.

While it seems that all the Sunday observing churches have their own slant on this subject, and there are
many theories, there is not one word of Scripture to back them up. We should be looking for a plain “thus saith
the Lord,” on this and every subject. BUT God’s Word always commands the keeping of the seventh day
Sabbath according to His Ten Commandment law. Please my friend, READ YOUR BIBLE! DON’T TAKE MY
WORD FOR IT! I’m sure that if you will prayerfully study and consider this subject, you will see the truth, as it is
in Jesus. There is a wonderful blessing that God has given for His people in the seventh day Sabbath of the
fourth commandment, but it goes largely UN-enjoyed by the church. Many Christians today, wonder why we do
not have the Spirit and power of the early apostolic church, and I believe the answer is found in 1 John 3:22:
“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are
pleasing in his sight.”

This letter will certainly not tell the whole story, nor will it answer your every question on the subject, but the
wonderful truth is that there are answers to those questions. All you have to do is pray and ask God for His
wisdom; then search the Scriptures to see whether those things are so (Acts 17:11). God will bless you with the
truth, and we would like to hear from you.

Your Servant,
Martin Barlow
